Commentary
Comprised of unglazed, white slip porcelain with a brown stain, this sculptural wall piece was exhibited at the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at Scripps College in Claremont. Deller has stated of his work, “I want these flattened elegant shapes to stand in direct contrast to the space around them. I am interested in work that is irreverent, refined and fatalistic. I want to make work with charisma.” White slip porcelain is created by coating the unfired ceramic object into clay that is thinned with water to an almost liquid consistency.
