Luis Bermudez
Contemporary 1980 - present Ceramist
American, b. July 12, 1953 Born in Los Angeles, Bermudez earned undergraduate and masters degrees at California State University, Northridge and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He received a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artists Fellowship Grant in 1988. A true working artist, he has exhibited throughout the country every year since 1976, including the Scripps College 62nd Ceramics Exhibition 2006 Ceramic Annual. In an essay in the Scripps’ catalogue, Leah Ollman writes that Luis Bermudez’ clay structures “evoke the timeless weight of stone, as well as a yearning toward the weightless expanse of the stars.”
