Magdalena Suarez Frimkess

Venezuelan, b. 1929 Magdalena Suarez Frimkess was born in Venezuela. She studied art as a youth like her husband, Michael Frimkess. Magdalena won a scholarship to study sculpture at the Ceramic Art Center in Port Chester, New York where in 1962 she met Michael and the two commenced a lively collaboration. She decorates the surfaces of her husband's ceramic vessels with contemporary images treated as if they were classical compositions but with witty social commentary and pop icons.
