Daisy Makeig-Jones
18th Century Wedgwood Ceramist
English, (December 31, 1881–July 21, 1945) Daisy Makeig-Jones was a designer for Wedgwood of England and is best known for her range of “Fairyland Lustreware.” She joined Wedgwood in 1909, and continued to work there until 1931. She apprenticed in every department and rose to become one of the company’s foremost designers. Much admired by the women in the painting department—the “paintresses” who executed many of the designs on ceramic surfaces—Makeig-Jones established a new vision for Wedgwood which brought the company great artistic and commercial success from 1915 to 1930.
