Commentary
This large-scale vessel in the shape of a head contains smaller figures swirling across the top, representing a persistent theme in Takamori’s work, human thoughts or memories and relationships. Takamori begins a piece by making drawings on paper, which he uses as patterns to cut slabs of clay, one for the front and one for the back. Adding details and molding, he fires the piece several times using polychrome glazes on smooth surfaces.
