Commentary
Frey's early work, of which "Motorcycle Mama" is a fine example, is intimate and stage-like in its tableau format. Seemingly oblivious to the squalor and disarray surrounding them, the two figures in this little domestic drama are seated in chairs in a room. A motorcycle tire is swept under the carpet like so many stray dust bunnies or only-half-hidden family secrets.
