Commentary
Ben Messick discussed the inspiration for this work, "The painting evolved from sketches and observations done at the circus. Pattern, gaiety and color of the parade are then transposed into visual form. Free use of all elements is employed to express my concept.

The design, technique, and color of the painting are worked out abstractly in order to arrive at a fresh and personal expression, rather than just subject matter."
