Commentary
Although most well known for his use of color, Jawlensky was also considered a master of expressive line. In 2007, the Long Beach Museum of Art loaned a number of the Wichner Collection paintings and drawings by Jawlensky for an exhibition that explored this aspect of Jawlensky’s work, Alexej Jawlensky: Born of the Line. Had you visited Lugano, Switzerland then, you would have seen this image, Young Girl II on posters everywhere in the city advertising the exhibition.
