Commentary
Wifredo Lam created this pastel drawing on his visit to Maracaibo, Venezuela, when the Centro de bellas Artes de Maracaibo exhibited his work. Lam traveled to see the Goajira of Venezuela, and, impressed by the indians and donkeys, created three drawings on his visit. He stated that the living carcass of the animal and how they looked at him made quite an impression.
