Commentary
This image represents one of the most highly dramatic moments in the Old Testament of the Bible. As a test of his faith, Abraham is asked by God to make the ultimate sacrifice - the sacrifice of his child Isaac. Just as Abraham was about to kill his son, God stops his hand in a gesture of divine mercy. The numerous, seemingly insignificant details in this work - the modeling of the blades of grass and flowers to the rendering of the flames in the altar, and the inclusion of the lamb in the foreground - underscore the modeler's interest in creating a bridge between remote Biblical legends and the reality of the physical world surrounding us.
