Saxe has been interested in the combination of form and surface resulting in highly eclectic combinations of materials--porcelian and stoneware, for example--and forms like this jar with an antelope figure on top and raised decorative drafting tools on the surface. Additionally, there is often a startling and amusing contrast between surface treatments like the dark, rough surface of the base and the lustrous glazes on the jar. Saxe's inventive forms include vegetables shaped into ceramic containers.
