By incorporating organic shapes such as these cloud-like figures, Rothman makes this platter, a part of his series called "sky pots," into a painterly, sculptural vessel. Rothman remarked, "The Sky Pots have continued in my work in different forms for forty years." Landscapes have been a theme in many of Rothman's ceramic works and sculpture.
