Commentary
In this bowl, Lukens experimented with rich yellow and green glazes similar to those used in China during the 8th century T'ang Dynasty. He frequently reminded his students that "the new in art is incredibly old and the old is still vastly new." His beautiful glazes on simple vessel shapes were the result of his love for the textures of the earth.
