Commentary
Much of the inspiration for his complex surface decoration comes from Perez's interest in early, pre-Hispanic textiles and from his study of natural phenomena. While Perez works intuitively, his vessels often allude obliquely to the patterns and designs found in pre-Columbian weaving or to natural occurrences such as the motions of a wave or the stratification of the earth.
