Gustavo Perez, Mexican, b. 1950

Object Type: Ceramic
Creation Place: North America, Mexico
Medium and Support: Stoneware
Credit Line: Gift of Frieda K. Bradsher
Accession Number: 2007.108

This stoneware vase has a smooth unglazed buff surface, decorated with etched lines that are then pinched to reveal the surface underneath. While PĂ©rez works intuitively, his vessels often allude obliquely to the patterns and designs found in pre-Columbian weaving or to natural occurrences such as the motions of a wave or the stratification of the earth.

2006: "Scripps College 62nd Ceramics Annual," Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery, Scripps College, Claremont, California
