Laura F. Andreson, American, (October 7, 1902–August 16, 1999)

Object Type: Ceramic
Creation Place: North America, United States, California
Medium and Support: Stoneware
Credit Line: Purchased with funds contributed by the 2000 Long Beach Museum of Art Collectors Circle
Accession Number: 2000.24

The contrast of interior horizontal lines made by Andreson's fingers as the clay was formed on the potter's wheel, with the exterior vertical lines lightly incised on its surface, sets up a subtle yet dynamic tension in the bowl. After 1944, she began to use a wheel to form her vessels. This bowl with its simple, monumental form and its soft green glaze is an exceptional example of Andreson's work of the late-1940s.
