For over fifty years, Harrison McIntosh has created functional ceramics which combine spare, rational forms associated with the German Bauhaus and beautifully proportioned shapes derived from Asian pottery traditions. With his dual interest between Eastern and Western aesthetic, McIntosh has much in common with painter John McLaughlin. In this work McIntosh uses repeated incised lines to create a unifying rhythm across the body of the vessel, giving it a simple elegance that unites elements both ancient and modern.
